Minutes for the Meeting held on September 7, 2006


Present: Dick Weaver , Robert M. Pellegrino, Michael Solomon, Mary Ann Broderick, Kent Lufkin, Brandon Wind, Brandon McFadden, Patrice Martin, Bob Michaud.

Call to Order: Mr. Weaver called the meeting to order, followed by self introductions.

Codes Department Business Development Report

Interim Codes Officer Mike Solomon presented the report, covering August 2006.

Approval of the Minutes

Mr. Lufkin moved to approve the minutes of the June 1, 2006 meeting as presented. Mr. Michaud seconded; the motion carried unanimously.


Lower Bucks Chamber of Commerce

Upcoming events include a State Representative Candidates Forum on Friday, September 29 at 8:00 am; reservations are required. Information and further detail about all LBCCC events is available on the website:

Joint Downtown Newtown Corporation

Ms. Dunleavy reported that two new businesses had opened on State Street: a retail women’s clothing store at 23 S. State Street, and the relocation of Soulutions for Daily Living to 126 N. State Street. She announced a new event sponsored by Main Streets, Girls Night Out (GNO), which will include tickets for a cocktail, appetizer and dessert at a local restaurant and movie ticket and popcorn at the Newtown Theatre; many downtown shops will remain open for shopping before the movie showing. GNO will take place the third Thursday night of each month, September 21 the movie will be “Sleepless in Seattle.” Mr. Lufkin noted that the Brick Hotel had changed ownership and that a Gourmet Express Shop would be opening there. Newtown Business and Professional Association

Mr. Wind noted that the next Business Card Exchange would be held next Tuesday, September 12, 5:00-7:00 at Tyrol Insurance. The next breakfast meeting will be held September 26 th at the Temperance House. Mr. Lufkin announced the October 26 th Business Card Exchange, to be held at Third Federal Bank at 3 Penns Trail. Economic Development Commission

Mr. Weaver reported that the commission had not met over the summer; their next meeting is scheduled for September 21 st.

Newtown Business Commons Association

Mr. Weaver said that things were moving along well, more successfully than in the past. He said they are making lots of plans and there is lots of activity. Mr. Lufkin said they would be holding a luncheon on September 28 th, hosted at the Law School Admissions. Mr. Lufkin announced Third Federal Bank would be sponsoring Kid Fest again this year on October 1 st.

Next Meeting

The next scheduled BDC meeting will be Thursday, October 5, 2006, at Dolce Carini Restaurant on South Eagle Road.
