Minutes for the Meeting held on February 1, 2007


Present: Michael Solomon, Mary Ann Broderick, Hal Roberts, Marge Frederick, Kent Lufkin, Wayne Bishop, Brandon Wind, Lud Worsham.

Call to Order: Leslie Dunleavy called the meeting to order in the absence of the Chair.

Codes Department Business Development Report

Director of Planning & Zoning Mike Solomon presented the report, covering January 2007, noting that the hotel project and Cosi restaurant are wrapping up land development issues, including site improvements. Mr. Solomon said he would try to bring a sketch of the hotel and restaurant to the next BDC meeting.

Approval of the Minutes

Ms. Frederick moved to approve the minutes of the January meeting as presented. Mr. Wind seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.


Lower Bucks Chamber of Commerce

Upcoming events include candidate events, business exchange and Percolator meeting. Information and further detail about all LBCCC events is available on the website:

Joint Downtown Newtown Corporation

Ms. Dunleavy reported that February AHA!: Chocolate had been quite successful, welcoming the new businesses at 123 N. Sycamore Street at Creekside, Vince Lombardi’s new building; the celebration included ribbon cuttings, presentation of plaques and refreshments such as chocolate cake and a chocolate fountain. She said that Girls’ Night Out had been suspended until spring, noting that it has been very successful to date. The JDNC/Main Streets website is:

Newtown Business and Professional Association

Ms. Dunleavy said elections had been held: Paul Salvatore was re-elected as President, Mick Petrucci will be Vice President, and Brandon McFadden was elected as Treasurer. Upcoming events include the Easter Egg Hunt and Welcome Day this spring, the Car Show in July and the Golf Outing in September. Newtown Business Commons Association

Mr. Lufkin said plans for signage and sidewalks have been to the association, noting funding would be a challenge. He said the association is interviewing for a paid staff member to solicit members; activity is increasing in the Commons.

The next scheduled BDC meeting will be Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Dolce Carini Restaurant.
