Minutes for the Meeting held on March 8, 2007


Present: Dick Weaver, Michael Solomon, Mary Ann Broderick, Hal Roberts, Marge Frederick, Kent Lufkin, Wayne Bishop, John Boyle, Riki Brennan, Chip Bromley.

Call to Order: Chairman Weaver called the meeting to order.

Codes Department Business Development Report

Director of Planning & Zoning Mike Solomon presented the report, covering February 2007. He noted the attached plan for the new hotel; there will be approximately 15,000 sq. ft. of conference space. Mr. Solomon said the Promenade would be heard at the Zoning Hearing Board this evening; Mr. Weaver said the project reviews may go into April. He said the new restaurant Roguet was looking for conditional use for dining hours and there are also parking issues. It was noted that Silver Lake Executive Suites is revising plans.

Approval of the Minutes

Mr. Lufkin moved to approve the minutes of the February meeting as presented. Mr. Roberts seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.


Lower Bucks Chamber of Commerce

Upcoming events include:

  • the Business Expo, 3:00-7:00 PM on March 28 th at King’s Caterers
  • Percolator meeting on April 12 at Woodriver Village
  • Legislative trip to Harrisburg on April 25 – register online, $60, participants wanted
  • Golf Outing in early June at the Northampton Country Club

Joint Downtown Newtown Corporation

Ms. Dunleavy reported that February AHA!: Chocolate had been quite successful, welcoming the new businesses at 123 N. Sycamore Street at Creekside, Vince Lombardi’s new building; the celebration included ribbon cuttings, presentation of plaques and refreshments such as chocolate cake and a chocolate fountain. She said that Girls’ Night Out had been suspended until spring, noting that it has been very successful to date. The JDNC/Main Streets website is:

Newtown Business and Professional Association

Ms. Dunleavy reported that Welcome Day was approved for State Street in the Borough for Sunday, May 20 th – the hours were changed to 12:00-5:00 PM so as not to interfere with church services. She said the Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 31, and the next Business Card Exchange will be held on March 21 st at Sleepy’s Mattress. Newtown Business Commons Association

Mr. Weaver said they held their quarterly meeting last week; nearly 40 attended. He said interest in membership is growing; there are presently 20-30 members. Mr. Weaver noted the association provided good networking opportunities. Mr. Lufkin noted that Tom Ragan has been hired as the new Membership Development Officer for the association.

The next scheduled BDC meeting will be Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Dolce Carini Restaurant, 2821 S. Eagle Road.
