Meeting held on October 22, 2012

The Newtown Township Environmental Advisory Council met on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Newtown Township Building. In attendance and voting were members Sanford Bender, Shannon Escalante and Pam Fitzpatrick.

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM.

Approval of Minutes: As this meeting lacked a quorum, approval of minutes of September 24, 2012 was tabled. .

Old Business

Quarterly Forum: Ms. Escalante reported that due to lack of enrollment, the October quarterly forum and Bird Town Training was canceled. The members discussed postponing the forum until after the holiday season. No date was chosen.

Ms. Fitzpatrick said that perhaps enrollment in the forum could be expanded to include children. She believed there might be some interest among elementary school children to make Newtown Elementary a Bird Town site. .

Liaison Reports

Newtown Creek Coalition: Ms. Escalante reported that Boy Scout Troop 99 had attended the Coalition’s meeting at which repair of riparian buffers was discussed. The Coalition continues its search for new members with specific skills such as accounting and information technology and public relations.

The Coalition will host an event called “Common Occurrence” at the Newtown Commons, behind the bicycle shop next Sunday.

A presentation is planned for Pennswood Village.

Planning Commission: The recording Secretary reported that the Commission reviewed and recommended preliminary plan approval for an addition and reconfigured driveway and parking for Newtown Elementary School..

As the meeting lacked a quorum, discussion of EAC projects was tabled. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.
