Summary of the 2007 Deer Vehicle Collision Data
Newtown's Environmental Advisory Council examined the issue of deer-vehicle
collisions in an attempt to better understand our community's relationship with the environment.
We hope that, by understanding the scope of this problem, you are better prepared to protect yourself,
your family, and the deer from danger.
- In 2007 there were 95 Deer-Vehicle Collisions (DVCs), the highest number over a six year period
- There is an average of 88 DVCs per year over the last five years
- Most accidents occur on the major arteries through the township
- Most DVCs occur from September through January
- Most DVCs occur from a time spike of 5 AM to 8 AM, and again (in greater numbers) from 5:30 PM to 11:30 PM

The table below reveals the average number of deer-vehicle collisions for each month over the last five years. Although the majority of deer-vehicle collisions generally occur in the fall, they clearly can occur at any time of year.
