NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD

Minutes of the meeting held on January 8, 2008

 

The Newtown Township Historical Architectural Review Board met on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at 1 P.M. in the Meeting Room of the Newtown Township Administration Building, 100 Municipal Drive, Newtown, PA.

Members present were Harriet Beckert, Melva Vittoriano and Building Inspector Rich Wendling. Members excused were Vincent Lombardi, Frank Tyrol, Doug Terry and Alfredo Trevino. Also present were Patty Powers, Codes Department Administrative Assistant; Michael S. Dixon, Travelink; Jeff McElhaney, McElhaney Signs; and Char McElhaney, McElhaney Signs.

Call to Order

Chairman Beckert called the meeting to order at 1:05 P.M.

Reorganization of the Board

The reorganization of the Board was postponed due to the lack of a quorum.

Certificates of Appropriateness:

Travelink, Incorporated – 15 Cambridge Lane

The Board discussed the Certificate of Appropriateness application completed by Travelink for three signs.

Front Entrance Sign – 1 Sandblasted Sign/1 Sided/ Size: 18”H x 24”L/Substrate: 1.5” sign foam sandblast with a grain frame/ Background white (Dupont car paint)/Raised border dark navy blue/Raised copy logo colors.

Side of Building Sign – 1 Sandblasted Sign/1 Sided/Size: 72”L x 24”H/Substrate: 1.5” sign foam sandblast with a grain frame/ Background white (Dupont car paint)/Raised boarder dark navy blue/Copy logo colors (as in photo)/Exterior Gooseneck lights above sign.

Back of Building Sign – 1 Sandblasted Sign/1 Sided/Size: 18”H x 24”L/Substrate: 1.5” sign foam/ Background white (Dupont car paint)/Raised boarder dark navy blue/Raised copy logo colors.

The Board questioned the location of Travelink. The representatives advised that the store is located in the Corners of Newtown, next to the flower shop. Chairman Beckert requested a map marking the location. Ms. Powers provided a plot plan for the Boards review.

Chairman Beckert advised the applicant that this Board only makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors and that they give the final approval.

The Board discussed the gooseneck lamps and advised the applicant that the color should be black or charcoal.

The Board agreed that they liked the proposed signs.

Ms. Vittoriano made a motion to approve the three signs as presented with gooseneck lights. The motion was seconded by Mr. Wendling and passed unanimously (3-0).

Chairman Beckert advised the applicant that the matter would be discussed at the Board of Supervisors meeting on January 23, 2008. The meeting starts at 7:30 P.M. and a representative should be present.

The Board thanked the representatives for their time.

The Board signed the Travelink Certificate of Appropriateness.

The Recording Secretary advised that she would contact the other members of the Board to have them sign the COA.

Privilege of the Floor

The Recording Secretary and Ms. Powers advised the Board that there only needs to be two (2) signed copies of the Certificate of Appropriateness as per discussions with the Township Manager and the Zoning Officer.

Adjournment

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was duly adjourned.
