Minutes of the meeting held on April 12, 2012

The Newtown Township Historical Architectural Review Board met on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 9:30 A.M. in the main meeting room of the Newtown Township Administration Building, 100 Municipal Drive, Newtown, PA.

Members present were Harriet Beckert, Doug Terry, Joseph McKernan, Jr., Bill Mahler, and Peggy Driscoll. Not present was member Brian Miller. Also present were Patty Powers, Codes Department, Martin Vogt, Zoning Officer and Linda Pera.

Call to Order:

Mr. McKernan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.

Minutes of February 9, 2012:

The members reviewed the minutes of February 9, 2012.

Mrs. Driscoll made a motion to approve the minutes of February 9, 2012 as presented. The motion was seconded by Mr. Mahler and passed unanimously (5-0).

New Business

Certificates of Appropriateness:

Today’s Kitchens & Baths of Newtown, Inc. – 258 North Sycamore Street

The Board discussed the Certificate of Appropriateness application completed for 258 North Sycamore Street to install identification signs.

Mrs. Beckert inquired if blade signs are being installed. Ms. Pera advised that blade signs are not being installed at this time. She is looking for approval for a front and rear wall mounted identification sign and marquis sign panels.

Mr. Mahler commented on the proposed color looking gold. Ms. Pera advised that the background color being proposed is olive green.

The Board agreed to recommend approving the application as presented.

Mr. Mahler made a motion to approve the application for 258 North Sycamore Street as presented. The front and rear wall mounted signs would be 18” X 138”. The background color for the signs would be Olive Green (Benjamin Moore – HC98) with white (Ralph Lauren – Gust of Wind – VM05) and black (1 Shot Lettering Enamel) lettering. The marquis sign panels would be 6” X 56” using the same colors on the wall mounted signs. The motion was seconded by Mrs. Beckert and passed unanimously (5-0).

Mr. McKernan advised the applicant that this Board only makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors and that they give the final approval. The matter would be discussed at the Board of Supervisors’ meeting on April 25, 2012. The meeting starts at 7:30 P.M. and a representative should be present.

The Board thanked Ms. Pera for her time.

The Board members present signed the Certificate of Appropriateness for 258 North Sycamore Street.

Mr. McKernan reported that he could not attend the Supervisors’ April 25, 2012 meeting and needed someone to present the application. Mr. Mahler agreed to attend the April 25, 2012 meeting.

Old Business

Update on developing a Book of Appropriateness

Mrs. Beckert advised the members that she has not yet made the updates to the Book of Appropriateness.

Other Business

Mrs. Driscoll updated the members on the Planning Commission’s review of the TC Ordinance and noted that the matter was scheduled for discussion at the Supervisor’s April 11, 2012 meeting.

There being no further business to come before the Board, Mr. Terry made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Mr. Mahler and passed unanimously (5-0).

The meeting was duly adjourned at 9:42 A.M.

The next meeting is scheduled for May 10, 2012 at 9:30 A.M.
