Minutes
of 10-09-01: Mr. Merjeski moved to
approve the minutes. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Tyrol and passed unanimously.
The Sycamore Street Committee met on Tuesday, October 9, 2001, in the Newtown Township Municipal Building at 8:00 p.m. In attendance were Chairman Vince Lombardi, Vice Chairman Frank Tyrol, Members Joe Merjeski, Jerry De Young, Dave Burns, Roger M. Taylor and Cathy Fink.
Also present was the Chairman of the Planning Commission Karen Doorley and resident Mr. James Kurtz.
CALL TO ORDER:
The
meeting was called to order at 8:05 p.m.
Mr.
De Young asked for a moment of silence for the events that occurred today,
September 11, 2001.
MINUTES OF 9-11-01:
Mr. Merjeski moved to approve
the minutes. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Burns and passed unanimously.
SUBCOMMITTEE
AND LIAISON REPORTS:
a. Traffic & Safety:
Mr. Merjeski reported on the southbound driving on Sycamore Street. He had
concerns about the road surface. The committee
discussed having the
contractor resurface the roadway. The committee discussed the upcoming meeting
with PECO, on Tuesday, October 16, 2001. The
committee discussed
walking the street for review before the Water Company finishes the job. Mr.
Lombardi advised he wanted all of the Traffic & Safety
Committee to be present
at the meeting on Tuesday.
b. Planning Commission: None
c. Grants: See correspondence from
DCED and Simone Jaffe Collins. Committee discussed putting more focus on grants.
d.
Community
Relations: Committee discussed having the Community Relations group start
meeting with residents in reference to the construction easements.
CORRESPONDENCE:
The committee discussed correspondence from the DCED in reference to the application submitted by Simore Jaffe Collins Re: DCED Grant Application - Street Trees for Sycamore Street. The DCED advised that the application was received by the September 28, 2001, deadline.
The committee discussed correspondence from Mr. David J. Steil, Member, 31st Legislative District, to Mr. Larry King, Deputy Secretary for Programming, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Re: switching the priority of the Sycamore Street Enhancement Project and the Newtown Bypass Enhancement Project.

GENERAL DISCUSSION:
The committee discussed the progress of the Sycamore Street Project. Residents in the community have advised the committee they feel the project is going along very well.
The committee discussed the Acme property. The Committee discussed drafting correspondence to the Board of Supervisors (BOS) in reference to using the Acme property as a staging area for the re-construction of Sycamore Street. The safety committee will draft correspondence. Ms. Doorley made a motion to draft correspondence to the BOS. Mr. Tyrol seconded the motion, which passed.
Mr. Lombardi discussed grant writing. He advised the committee that Mr. Frank, at Heritage Conservancy is going to allow their grant writer to meet with the committee to discuss grant writing. She will investigate all of the potential areas for the Sycamore Street project to receive funding for the enhancements.
Mr. Merjeski asked if Step 9 has passed final design and when will the committee see the final design? Mr. Lombardi advised that the committee will not get an official approval of Step 9 at this time. The committee has received a verbal approval.
The committee discussed the budget.
The committee discussed concerns with some employee issues at Mid Atlantic.
