1. CALL TO ORDER
2. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:
One April 25, 2002, PennDot announced on behalf of Gov. Mark Schweiker that 45.4 Million dollars in federal funds were approved for 153 projects across Pennsylvania. These funds are used to enhance recreational trails, historic transportation properties and landscaping along streets and highways across Pennsylvania. The Sycamore Street Reconstruction Project was awarded 1.2 Million dollars as part of these awards.
Our funds were awarded to be used for attractive sidewalks, period street lighting, well defined crosswalks, pedestrian signals, street trees and other landscaping; street furniture including benches, trash containers and bike racks. Other landscaping can include hanging baskets, sidewalk planters and banners.
These transportation enhancement funds have been dubbed T-21 Funds. Our grant was from the third and final round of T-21 grants offered over the last 6 years. We have had applications in previous rounds that have been turned down. In late September 2001, this application was drawn up by grant writer Peter Simone for the Sycamore Street Committee. It was submitted by Acting Manager Tom Harwood and supported by the Board Chairman Steve Sanderlin and the entire Newtown Township Board of Supervisors.
