Minutes of the meeting of Novmeber 20, 2013
Call to Order: Mr. Davis called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM.
Social Media Policies: The members reviewed the social media policies of Fels Institute, City of Philadelphia an nd Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Using these policies as guides, the members continued to work on a draft for the Township, agreeing that social media would need a dedicated liaison to monitor and update any Facebook or other page. It was agreed that any social media accounts that are official Township pages would not accept comment, but would be used only to disseminate information. The members would also review the Facebook pages of the Township’s Park and Recreation Department and Police Department to see how these could work together along with a Township Administration page.
Mr. Davis said that he would speak to Mr. Ferguson about personal accounts of Township officials, to determine whether any guidelines are needed there. They briefly discussed some recent cases involving employees’ use of blogs and Facebook which had violated employer policies.
Looking ahead, Mr. Davis said that in 2014, the committee would continue to review the hardware and software purchase and upgrade plans, which may be impacted by recent changes in the Township’s budget due to the closing of Lockheed Martin and the loss of its earned income tax contribution.
The Committee would not meet in December, as its regular date will be New Year’s Eve.
