MINUTES OF APRIL 6, 2005: James Bowe moved to approve the minutes of April 6, 2005. The motion was seconded by Steve Erwin and passed unanimously with one member abstaining.
Members Present: James Manahan, Chairman; James Bowe, Member; Steve Erwin, Member; and Walt Iwaskiw, Member Representing Newtown Township; Patrick Foster, Vice-Chairman and Don Smith, Liaison Representing Newtown Borough. Not in attendance was Barbara Jankowski, Member and Scott Harp, Liaison Representing Newtown Township.
Also present was Joseph Czajkowski representing Comcast Cable Communications, Inc.
CALL TO ORDER:
Chairman James Manahan called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m.
MINUTES OF MARCH 2, 2005:
James Bowe moved to approve the minutes of March 2, 2005. The motion was seconded by Steve Erwin and passed unanimously
Walt Iwaskiw advised he had one change to the minutes from the February 2, 2005 meeting. Under the Comcast Update the statement regarding the Comcast High Speed Internet upgrades should read as follows – Comcast has increased the speeds of its internet service. Customers who currently use the residential service which provides 3mpbs download/256kbps upload will increase 4mbps download/384kbps upload. Those customers with the 4mbps/384kbps service will see their speeds increase to 6mbps download/768kbps upload. Walt Iwaskiw made a motion to amend the minutes. The motion was seconded by James Bowe and passed unanimously.
The committee members discussed the phrase “Video Calibration” that appears on Channel 23. Walt Iwaskiw advised the members on what video calibration is.
The committee members discussed the correspondence received from a resident regarding Channel EWTN. Joe Czajkowski advised the members on how the resident can receive Channel EWTN. The committee requested Joe Czajkowski to contact the resident. Joe Czajkowski advised he would contact the resident.
The committee members discussed the improvements that have been made to the character generator. Members agreed they like the changes the Technology department has done with the character generator.
The committee members discussed the work Verizon is doing within the Township and Borough. James Bowe advised the committee members on his discussions with Bill Roth and that Bill Roth would be at the next BOS meeting on April 13, 2005. The committee members questioned the number of road opening permits Verizon has applied for. Members suggested recommending that the BOS monitor Verizon’s work more closely. Committee members discussed the various companies who have had equipment destroyed due to Verizon contractors. The committee members discussed the Newtown Artesian Water Company. Don Smith advised on the work done by the water company and employee overtime, he also advised that Verizon has not paid the outstanding invoice with the Newtown Artesian Water Company. James Bowe recommended having Pat Foster present the next committee report to the BOS. Pat Foster declined to present the next committee report, he did advise the committee members that at this time the Newtown Artesian Water Company spends 80% of their time marking water lines. There are approximately 92 tickets per day, he feels the Township should have Verizon slow down or charge for the marking of the lines. He also commented with regards to the debt the Newtown Artesian Water Company has incurred and he discussed leak detection. He advised the committee members that he had 7 emergency one calls in 1 weekend. The committee members discussed how the Borough is handling Verizon. Don Smith advised that most of the work being done within the Borough is overhead. The committee members discussed safety concerns. The committee members agreed their report to the BOS would be negative regarding Verizon. James Bowe advised he would contact the Verizon representatives to discuss the complaints. Steve Erwin questioned what is expected from confronting Bill Roth. James Bowe advised.
Joseph Czajkowski advised the committee members on the following changes:
Walt Iwaskiw commented with regards to the free movie channels offered by Comcast.
OTHER BUSINESS/MEMBER COMMENTS:
James Bowe commented on the PDF file received from Ron Weaver. He advised he has made a searchable version of the file and will forward to the committee members.
The committee members meet briefly in executive session.
The meeting adjourned at 8:28 p.m.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 4, 2005. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m., in the Newtown Borough Fire
Station located at 14 Liberty Street, Newtown.
