NEWTOWN AREA TELECOMMUNICATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF November 1, 2006

 

Members Present: James Manahan, Chairman; James Bowe, Member; Barbara Jankowski, Member; Harry Stevens, Member; and Robert Hafner, Member Representing Newtown Township. Not present were Jerry Schenkman, Liaison Representing Newtown Township and Patrick Foster, Vice-Chairman and Don Smith, Liaison Representing Newtown Borough.

No representative from Comcast Cable Communications, Inc or Verizon attended the meeting.

Call to Order

Chairman James Manahan called the meeting to order at 7:43 P.M.

MINUTES OF October 4, 2006:

James Bowe moved to approve the minutes of October 4, 2006. The motion was seconded by Barbara Jankowski and passed unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS:

The Committee members discussed the status of the Borough representatives’ attendance at the monthly meetings.

OLD BUSINESS:

Newtown Chamber Orchestra

James Manahan advised that the Board of Supervisors has agreed to consider airing the audio performance of the Newtown Chamber Orchestra on Channel 22.

James Bowe advised the Committee members on the status of the audio.

James Manahan advised the Committee members that he still needs to discuss the matter with Bob Pellegrino.

Local Content

The Committee members discussed producing Candidate Debates for next year’s General Election.

The Committee members discussed the involvement from the League of Women Voters.

James Bowe advised that Northampton Township has been producing Candidate Debates.

The Committee members discussed Northampton Township Cable Committee’s involvement with the Candidate Debates.

James Bowe advised he would contact Northampton Township to gather more information on the matter.

The members discussed the expansion of LaSalle University and their possible interest in the project.

The Committee members discussed having sponsors to fund the cost of the debates.

The Committee members discussed Bucks County Community College and their possible interest in the project.

The Committee members discussed Council Rock School District and the Political Science Club and their possible interest in the project.

The Committee members discussed gathering more information regarding the debates before making a presentation to the Board of Supervisors.

Township Audit of Existing Internet Access, Equipment, Needs

James Bowe updated the Committee members with regards to the audit of the Township’s existing Internet access, equipment and needs.

Video Regarding Municipal Facilities

James Bowe updated the Committee members with regards to educational video for the Municipal Complex. He advised on discussions with Cara Schollenberger and Jerry Schenkman regarding the development of the video.

Comcast Franchise Agreement Review

The Committee members discussed the Comcast Franchise Agreement.

James Manahan advised that the current Franchise Agreement would expire in 2009.

COMCAST UPDATE:

The Committee members discussed Comcast’s attendance at the monthly meeting.

OTHER BUSINESS/MEMBER COMMENTS:

The Committee members discussed wireless high definition.

The Committee members discussed the County having an Epidemic Response Day.

The Committee members discussed the County and Township Emergency Alert System.

The Committee members discussed Verizon’s attendance at the monthly meeting.

ADJOURNMENT:

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M.

The next meeting is scheduled for December 6, 2006. The meeting will begin at 7:30 P.M., in the Newtown Borough Fire Station located at 14 Liberty Street, Newtown.
